As part of the Celebration of International Women’s Day, we celebrate Salimatou Fatty from The Gambia, A passionate gender and Education change Advocate.
She is the CEO of Salimatou Foundation For Education.
Salimatou Fatty has seven years’ experience in the nonprofit and voluntary sector. She studied Gender and Development at Management Development Institute. Currently she is a Law student at the University of The Gambia. She is the founder/CEO of Salimatou Foundation for Education. she campaigns for quality education for children in her community. She focuses her campaign on Education and Gender Equality . She advocates for arranged and forced marriages and quality education. She has represented her country in international trainings and conferences.
She is globally recognised as Education and Gender advocate, based in Gambia. She is the Global Youth Ambassador for “A World At School”, an International Organization, whose goal is to achieve universal education for all children. She is an ambassador for several international organizations to The Gambia and a member of African Youth Commission. She is an intern at ActionAid International-The Gambia.
Salimatou Fatty is a trained Peace Educator.She is passionate about global development and has participated in many activities that are gear towards global development. She is an award winning activist and received several honors. She won African Leadership Award by Independent Pan African Youth Parliament in September 2016, nominated for World Youth Prize for Excellence in Development in early 2016, Nominated for African Youth Award under Advocate of the year in December 2016, she was named as Girl of the Month in September 2016 by Girls Pride Circle, an international organization that recognized the effort of young girls who are doing amazing job in their various countries, she was named Young Personality of the week in March 2016 by Young People in the Media, a youth led organization in The Gambia that recognized the work of amazing young people who are doing an impact in their community through media. Salimatou is a Young African Leaders Initiative fellow(YALI RLC) . She attended the training in West Africa, Ghana, Accra.
Her foundation is a right to education charitable foundation that is working to ensure people have access to quality education . Her foundation works on sponsorship which has enrolled several children into school from street beggars and street selling children, mentorship, career development, and the likes. Her foundation is the first organization in The Gambia that are planing to host a Regional and National Spelling bee.
